Bailiffs and enforcement officers are people authorised to remove and sell your possessions in order to pay the money you own to a person or an organisation.
There are different categories of bailiff ranging from county court bailiffs to non-certified bailiffs.
Have you been at the receiving end of bailiffs? What has this involved? Tell us about your experiences…

When bailiffs come knocking at your door it is the scariest feeling ever. It is agonising and I would advise anyone for whom this could become a possibility to seek help before it reaches that point. However, if it does reach the stage where bailiffs are knocking, just remmeber that you will get through it. It is posssible to recover adn hopefully you will come away having learnt some lessons and a better person. I learnt to be sensible with money and enjoy the simple things in life. As a result I became a less materialistic person and would say I am actually happier now.

Although I have never been involved in a case with bailiffs before but I do know that if there is a court injunction, or a court order for eviction you cannot stop the bailiffs, otherwise you can be charged for obstruction of justice and that is a jailable offence.
In the case of debt collection at times it is best not to let the bailiffs gain entrance to your home- there is no offence for not cooperating with a bailiff.
You should seek advice asap.
A bailiff must not threaten you illegally, force entry to your home or use offensive language. If you are concerned about a bailiff's behavior, you can complain either to the creditor or to the court that sent them.
